Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

This policy explains what we do with your personal data. It covers screendub.io, the ScreenDub Recorder extension, and any support conversation you have with us.

ScreenDub turns screen recordings into narrated videos. Recordings often show private work, so this page is specific about where yours go.

1. What happens to your recordings

What stays on your device

  • Your finished video. Export runs in your browser. We never receive the file you download
  • Your PDF guide. Built in your browser the same way, and we never receive a copy
  • Your edits. Trimming, cropping and blurring happen on your device
  • Recordings you have not imported. They stay in your browser until you bring them in

What we store

Your raw recording, the script, the narration audio, captions and thumbnails. These sync your projects across your devices and your workspace.

We keep nothing for our own purposes. We do not sell your data. We do not use your recordings for advertising.

What the video shows

A recording shows whatever was on your screen. If something private was visible, it is in the video. Trim or blur it in the editor before you save.

2. What we collect

What you give us

  • Your account: name and email. If you set a password, we never see it. Our sign-in provider stores a one-way hash
  • Sign in with Google, if you use it: your name, email and profile picture. Nothing else in your Google account
  • Preferences: language, narrator voice, script style
  • Payment: handled by Stripe. We store a customer id, never your card number
  • Your content: recordings you upload and everything generated from them

What we collect automatically

  • Usage: which features and pages you use, through Aptabase. Signed in, these events carry an account id
  • Device: browser, operating system, IP address
  • Server logs: kept for security and for debugging what broke

3. Why we process it

  • Run your account
  • Analyse recordings, write scripts, generate narration
  • Store and sync your projects
  • Take payment and manage your subscription
  • Send account and billing email
  • Understand how the product is used, and improve it
  • Answer your support requests
  • Keep the Service secure and meet legal obligations

Two legal bases cover all of this. Performance of a contract, for anything needed to deliver the Service. Legitimate interests, for analytics, security and preventing abuse.

4. How we use AI

Gemini watches your recording and writes the script. Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text generate the narration and time the captions.

Your content never trains an AI model. We are on Gemini's paid tier, where Google's own terms state it does not use your files, prompts or responses to improve its products. That is a contract, not just our word.

Gemini reads your recording from our storage. Google keeps no copy. The reference that lets it read the file is deleted the moment the analysis finishes.

Google keeps a short log of requests to catch abuse and meet legal obligations. It is not used for training. Every major AI provider does this.

5. Workspaces and teammates

Every account is a workspace. How it works:

  • What you record belongs to the workspace you were in, not to you personally
  • Join someone's workspace and you can see and edit everything in it. They can see yours in theirs
  • Switching workspaces changes what you are looking at, nothing else. It never reaches their settings, billing or password
  • The owner controls membership and can remove you at any time, effective immediately
  • The owner can see and delete anything teammates made in their workspace
  • To keep a recording to yourself, record it in your own workspace

This shapes deletion too. We act on the account you own. Content in someone else's workspace belongs to them, so we pass those requests to the owner.

6. Who else handles your data

Running ScreenDub needs a handful of companies. Each acts on our instructions and cannot use your data for itself.

Google Cloud Storage

What it does: Storing your files

What it sees: Recordings, thumbnails, narration audio, brand assets

Google Gemini API (paid tier)

What it does: Watching your recording and writing the script

What it sees: Your recording, read from our storage, and the script written from it

Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text

What it does: Generating narration and timing captions

What it sees: Script text and the narration audio made from it

Supabase

What it does: Database and sign-in

What it sees: Account information and project metadata

Google Sign-In

What it does: Confirming who you are, if you use it instead of a password

What it sees: Your name, email and profile picture. Google is told you signed in to ScreenDub. We never receive your Google password

Stripe, Inc.

What it sees: Email and billing information. Card details go straight to Stripe

Vercel

What it does: Running the site and app

What it sees: Request logs

Inngest

Aptabase

What it does: Product analytics

What it sees: Features used, browser, operating system, device, screen size. An account id when signed in. Never your name or email

We do not sell, rent or trade your data. We share nothing for advertising. We disclose information only where the law requires it.

7. How long we keep things

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete a project or your whole account from settings at any time. When you delete your account:

  • Your profile, projects, recordings and generated content are deleted permanently
  • Files leave Google Cloud Storage. Backups hold them for up to 7 days, then they are gone
  • There is nothing to delete at our AI provider. It reads from our storage and keeps no copy
  • Stripe keeps billing records to meet its own legal obligations
  • Aptabase keeps analytics events under its retention policy. They carry an account id, never your name

You can also email hello@screendub.io. We respond within one month.

8. How we protect your data

  • Everything travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Recordings and audio are encrypted at rest with AES-256
  • The database is encrypted at rest
  • No file is public. Each one is served through a signed link that expires
  • The database enforces access. A request reaches only the workspace you belong to
  • Stripe handles cards and is PCI-DSS compliant. We never touch them

One person runs ScreenDub, and only that person can reach production. No support team, no contractor and no outside party has standing access to your recordings.

No system is perfectly secure and we will not pretend otherwise. The list above is what is actually in place.

9. What rights you have

Wherever you live, you can ask to see your data, correct it, delete it, or get a copy. Email hello@screendub.io. We respond within one month.

These rights cover your account data: email, billing and analytics. Recordings are different. There we act for the workspace that owns them. If you appear in someone else's recording, we pass your request to that owner.

If you are in California

You can know what we collect and why, ask us to delete it, opt out of its sale, and not be treated differently for asking. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.

If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland

The GDPR also gives you the right to:

  • Access your data
  • Correct it
  • Erase it
  • Restrict how we process it
  • Receive it in a portable form
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests

You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

10. The ScreenDub Recorder extension

An optional Chrome extension records a browser tab and your cursor, so the editor can add zoom automatically. It collects nothing unless a recording is running.

What it collects while recording

  • Tab video: the tab you chose
  • Interaction: cursor position, clicks, scrolling, and where you click
  • Typing activity: keystroke timing, so the editor knows when to zoom into a field. Never which keys, never any text
  • Page context: the address and title of pages in the recorded tab, used to spot when the page changes

Password fields are skipped. The extension never marks one out in the interaction data.

Stop recording and the extension collects, stores and sends nothing.

Where it goes

  • Recordings stay in your browser. Nothing leaves until you import one
  • Once imported, it is treated like any other content in this policy
  • The local copy is deleted after a successful import
  • Anything you never import is deleted after 7 days

No advertising, no analytics, no trackers. Nothing is shared with third parties.

11. Cookies and browser storage

  • A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in
  • Analytics identifiers: session id, account id, plan, workspace. They count a returning visit once instead of several times. Clearing site data removes them
  • Editor and playback preferences

No advertising cookies. No cross-site tracking.

12. Children

ScreenDub is a tool for work. Our Terms require account holders to be 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone younger. If a child has created an account, email hello@screendub.io and we will delete it.

13. Where your data is processed

ScreenDub is based in the United States, and the providers in section 6 hold your data there. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your data is transferred to the United States, where data protection law differs from your own country's.

14. Changes to this policy

We update this page as the product changes. If a change materially affects you, we will email you or post a clear notice in the app first. The date at the top shows the last revision.
