Screen recording

The Chrome extension

In short

  • Records one browser tab and tracks your cursor, which is what makes automatic zoom possible.
  • Optional. The built-in recorder works without it.
  • No audio and no keystroke content are ever captured.
  • Unimported recordings are deleted from your browser after seven days.

The ScreenDub Recorder extension records a browser tab and tracks your cursor while it does. That cursor data is what makes automatic zoom possible: the editor can push in on the exact thing you clicked, because it knows where you clicked.

Do you need it?

No. The built-in recorder works without anything installed. Use the extension when you want automatic zoom, which is the single biggest thing that makes a screen recording look hand-edited.

Installing it

  1. Install ScreenDub Recorder from the Chrome Web Store. There is an install button on the record page too.
  2. Open the page you want to record.
  3. Click the ScreenDub icon in your toolbar.

It works in Chrome and other Chromium browsers, including Edge, Brave, Opera, and Arc. Extensions cannot be installed on mobile.

Recording with it

  1. Click the ScreenDub icon and pick what you are making.
  2. Start recording, then work through your steps as normal.
  3. Click the icon again to stop.
  4. The recording opens in ScreenDub, ready for narration and editing.

What it captures

  • The tab you chose, and only that tab. Other tabs and other apps are not recorded.
  • Your cursor movements, clicks, scrolling, and page changes.
  • Typing as timing only. Which keys you press and what you type are never recorded.
  • No audio. ScreenDub replaces the audio with narration anyway, so the extension does not ask for your microphone.
Because it records one tab, the capture is clean by construction. No desktop, no notifications, no other windows drifting into frame.

Where recordings live

A finished recording stays in your browser until you bring it into your ScreenDub account. Recordings you never import are deleted automatically after seven days. If a recording is stranded because a tab closed at the wrong moment, ScreenDub finds it and offers to recover it next time you open the record page.

Then use auto zoom

Open the project, click Customize, and go to Edit & Overlay. The Zoom & clicks section is there for extension recordings. See Auto zoom & click effects.
