Customizing the look

Customize is where you change how the finished video looks. Open a project, click Customize in the toolbar, and you get four tabs: Background, Music, Edit & Overlay, and Branding. Every change previews live on the player and bakes into the export.

Background#

A background puts your recording in a frame instead of filling the screen edge to edge. It is the fastest way to make a plain screen capture look deliberate.

• Presets. Choose from photo wallpapers, gradients, solid colors, and soft multi-glow mesh backgrounds.
• Build your own. Pick any solid color, or build a gradient with your own two colors and angle.
• Blur. Soften the background so the video stays the sharpest thing on screen.
• Grain. Add a light film grain over the whole frame for a warmer, less digital feel.

The same tab shapes the video box that sits on top of the background:

• Padding. How much background shows around the video.
• Corners. Round the corners of the video box, from square to soft.
• Shadow. Lift the box off the background. Set the depth, or turn it off.
• Border. Draw an edge around the video, in any color you pick.

Music#

Choose a track, set its volume, and turn on ducking so the music drops under the narration and comes back up between lines. See Background music.

If your recording had its own sound, this tab is also where you bring it back. Turn on the original audio, set how loud it sits, and duck it under the narration the same way.

Edit & Overlay#

This tab holds everything drawn on or cut from the picture.

• Crop. Drag handles on the preview to cut off an edge you do not want, like a browser toolbar or a second monitor. The exact percentages are shown so the result is checkable, and there is a reset.
• Zoom & clicks. Camera motion that follows your cursor. This section only appears for recordings made with the Chrome extension. See Auto zoom & click effects.
• Caption style. Pick the caption look, set the text size, and choose the highlight color. See Captions.
• Top & bottom text. A title line across the top and a subtitle across the bottom, shown for the whole video. Each band has its own size control. Leave a field empty and nothing is drawn.
• Titles & chapters. The design used for the opening title, the chapter titles, and the closing card. See Titles & chapters.
• Intro & outro. What plays behind the opening and closing cards: a montage of short clips from your video, a crossfade of still frames, or one held frame. Recordings only.
• Slide transitions. The effect between slides, from a hard cut to Fade, Push, Wipe, Zoom, Dip to black, Cover, Iris, Blur, Reveal, and Split. Decks only.

Branding#

Branding is on paid plans. Add your logo, a title line, and a brand color. The color drives the accents on your title and chapter cards, so the overlays match your identity instead of the default gold.

• Saved branding. Your account brand kit. Set it once and it applies to every project you make.
• This video only. A one-off logo and title for the video in front of you. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and a reload clears it.
• Watermark placement. Choose which corner your mark sits in and how far it sits from the edge.

On the free plan the Branding tab is still visible so you can see what it does, and exports carry a small "Created using ScreenDub.io" mark. See Plans & billing.

The shape of your video#

The shape selector sits in the toolbar rather than in Customize, because it changes the canvas every other setting is drawn on.
