When you stop recording, you land on a review step before anything is uploaded. This is where you cut out the parts that went wrong, crop the frame, and hide anything private. Do it here and the mistakes never leave your computer.
Why it happens before upload
The script is written from what ScreenDub sees. If you cut a fumbled step here, it is never analyzed and never narrated. If you blur a password here, it is never uploaded at all. Cleaning up first gives you a better script and keeps private things private.
Cutting out a section
- Drag across the filmstrip under the preview to select a stretch of time.
- The video scrubs as you drag, so you can see exactly where you are.
- Choose Remove to cut that stretch out.
Play back at any time and the preview skips the parts you cut, so you hear and see the real result before you commit.
Blurring something private
Select a stretch of time and choose Blur, then drag a box over the area to hide. Use it for a password, an email address, a customer name, or anything on screen you did not mean to show. The box previews the real effect, so you can see what will be hidden.
Cropping the frame
Drag a box over the picture to keep only the part that matters. This is the fix for a browser toolbar, a bookmarks bar, or a second monitor caught in the capture.
Trimming the ends
The start and end of a recording are usually you getting ready and you reaching for the stop button. Trim both. A tighter recording makes a tighter video.
Nothing is final until you save
Cuts, blurs, and crops are held as pending edits while you work. Nothing is rendered as you go, so you can add, undo, and change your mind freely. When you save, ScreenDub applies everything in one pass and uploads the result.
Zoom on the filmstrip
The filmstrip can be zoomed in and out. Zoom in to place a cut precisely on a single moment, and out to see the whole recording at once.
If the file is still too large
Uploads are capped at 650 MB. If your recording is over the cap after edits, ScreenDub tells you and you can remove more sections to bring it down.
