Screen Recording Tips for Tutorial Videos
Last updated
In short
- The script is written from what is on screen, so a clean capture gives it more to work with.
- Close what you do not need, turn off notifications, and move at a steady pace.
- One task per video. Shorter is almost always better.
- Anything private that slips through can be blurred before upload.
A clean recording leads to a better video. The narration is written from what is on screen, so a clear, steady capture gives the script more to work with. These tips help you get it right the first time.
Before you record
- Plan the steps you want to show. A short list keeps you on track.
- Close tabs and apps you do not need.
- Turn off notifications so nothing pops up mid-recording.
- Hide any private or sensitive information on screen.
If something private does slip through, you can blur it on the review step before the recording is uploaded. See Editing your recording.
While you record
- Show one task per video. Keep each recording focused.
- Move at a steady pace. Pause for a moment between steps.
- Use a comfortable window size so text stays large and readable.
- Avoid fast scrolling. Slow, clear motion is easier to narrate.
- If you record your microphone, use a quiet room.
Keep videos short
Each recording can run up to 6 minutes on the Free plan and up to 15 minutes on paid plans. Shorter is usually better. If your workflow is long, split it into a few short videos. Viewers find short videos easier to follow.
